The most revered Buddhist site in Ceylon (presently Sri Lanka), this temple (also called Sri Dalada Maligawa) holds what is believed to be the upper left canine tooth of the Lord Buddha, which is considered the holiest of objects by his followers. Attributed to the British photographer Charles Scowen, this image shows what is believed to be the Dalada Procession, the largest ritual festival of the Sacred Tooth Relic, as it passes by the Temple.
