In an area that has known a great deal of conflict (much of it, in all probability, caused by European colonialism during the 19th century), it is difficult to provide an accurate historical context for this photograph (and the matching pair Ref: SK01657-01). Simply put, however, in this extraordinary portrait - taken by an unknown photographer - we find a woman with a noble regard.
