Congo, 1924

Unidentified photographer of the Citroën Expedition

The Citroën Expedition was an incredible 20,000km trek across the continent of Africa (during a time when no roads existed) in vehicles designed and manufactured by André Citroën (founder of the car company with his name). This beautiful portrait, taken by one of the amateur photographers who participated in this journey, is of a Mangbetu woman whom they met while traveling through the area known today as the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
