by Unidentified French Traveler
The town of Siang Tan, located in the Hunan province of South-Central China, is best remembered as the birthplace of Chairman Mao Zedong. Surrounded by forests and rice fields, the region is as beautiful as it is remote. This graphic image, taken by an unidentified French traveler, shows a row of fisherman working their nets. In the background, a number of Chinese junks sail downriver and the town Siang Tan can be seen across the water.
